A Little Boy Went Into a Barn Lyrics
A nap in the hay, a sudden flutter of wings, and one very surprised little boy running for the door. Four lines, one small fright and a happy ending.
A Little Boy Went Into a Barn
A little boy went into a barn,
And lay down on some hay;
An owl came out and flew about,
And the little boy ran away.

What Does A Little Boy Went Into a Barn Mean?
The boy lies down in a barn full of hay, not knowing that an owl lives there. When the owl flies out and flaps about, he gets such a fright that he runs away. Nobody is hurt: the owl was just as surprised as the boy.
History and Origin
This version comes from Mother Goose's Nursery Rhymes. Barn owls got their name because they often nest in barns, and farmers welcomed them because they hunt the mice and rats that eat stored grain. A sleepy child meeting one in the dark makes a perfect little story.
Learning Activities
- Owl sounds: barn owls screech rather than hoot. Listen to recordings of both.
- Act it out: one child lies in the hay, another is the owl, and the boy runs away.
- Brave talk: talk about things that seem scary at first but are not dangerous.
